All former students of Sol Schoenbach at the Curtis Institute of Music, Otto Eifert performed as Principal Bassoonist of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and continues to give master classes and solo recitals internationally. Matthew Ruggiero, Founder and President of Boston Woodwind Society, served as Assistant Principal Bassoonist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Principal Bassoonist of the Boston Pops and is involved with bassoon workshops and master classes in the United States and Asia. James Hough, formerly Associate Principal Bassoonist of the Utah Symphony Orchestra, retired as Principal Bassoonist of the Symphony Orchestra of Castilla y León. He continues to teach privately and performs with the Sonar Ensemble in Madrid as well as in other chamber music collaborations. He is also involved with musicological research in many areas, one of which is the history and development of woodwind instruments.
